There were neighborhood pizzerias on almost every corner, but there were only one or two whose pizza really stood out. We visited our favorites not only because we craved the pizza, but also because we were inspired by the passion of the owners. We watched them make their sauce and dough from scratch, chop mountains of fresh veggies, and hand-slice the meats.
