Get the carrot cake cookie sandwich. No regrets. Just happiness. (If you get it to go they'll even give you a napkin since they know it won't make it home!)

Hands down the best Vegan chocolate Avo mousse! The menu changes, so don't fall in Love with a dish too hard. I love that they have Vegan options. The Banh Mi is a keeper! The service is also out of this World!

Wow! We had an EXCEPTIONAL dinner at Magpie last night! Started with the fried spring onions - sooo good and most of us aren't onion fans. My toddler had the hummus bowl which was overflowing with fresh veggies, hummus, an egg and edible flowers. We also had two orders of the ceviche and an order of the lemon chicken salad. We ended our meal with a carrot cake cookie and ice cream sandwich. EVERYTHING we had was fresh, generous portions and they didn't skimp on the seafood or chicken! We also had wonderful service!

Awesome experience. Plenty gluten free options! Got in nice and early, on second floor, with good spacing between tables. I had gluten free fish and chips, gluten free bread and butter, and gluten free curry sauce! Even the vinegar was gluten free. The food was delicious. You'd not think it was gluten free batter. The fish was tasty and fresh, and the chips were so chunky; and none of it left that greasy feeling in your mouth. Curry sauce was lovely for someone who prefers it sweeter, and thankfully the gf bread slice came with plenty of butter Service was quick, though there was a slight wait for our dinners, it was well worth it knowing it was fresh. My partner had the same dish but not gluten free, and the crunch of the batter sounded delicious! Will definitely go back!

Magpie is my favorite restaurant in Sacramento. That's a lot to say, but this is why. The care and respect of every ingredient used in this restaurant is at the highest level, it's the very essence of what a sustainable food restaurant should look like. The ceviche here was the best thing I put in my mouth all last year. And it's on the menu again this year. It's more of a Peruvian style ceviche served with housemaid potato chips for the crunch, a great olive oil, vegetables and the freshest seafood. It's a near perfect dish.

The steak and frites here is a fantastic dish, a hearty portion in a red wine glace. Perfect for when that's the kind of meal you want. The housemaid pastas here are fantastic. This is the kind of restaurant where I have no problem saying, what should I eat? And, acting on the answer from staff. Even if it's a little bit out of my comfort zone. Generally, I would not order quail. But on the recommendation I've now had it here several times, it's fantastic. Everything here is fantastic. I think I'm going back tonight!

Wow! We got the ceviche and the asparagus special. Everything was exceptionally fresh and meticulously prepared. One of the best meals I've had in a long time. Fine dining quality in a laid-back atmosphere at a reasonable price.

I wanted to book a reservation here for valentines, but there were unfortunately booked out. We kind of forgot about this place since then, but happen to run into it going through second Saturday. We came in and after a lot of thinking we got the cheese board and some fries (we're college kids, okay?) and we exceptionally happy with what we got.

The cheese board was super tasty with both fresh pears and blood oranges, along with some dried dates and I believe a persimmon jam. Each ingredient paired very nicely with the amazing fresh Brie. Wish there were a little more bread that came with it but otherwise it was amazing. Beautiful presentation and very delicious experience overall. The fries were also pretty good.

What they missed in crunch was made up for in fluffiness and volume. Their drinks were also quite good. I've never had zeal kombucha and it was pretty good. Their mimosa was also deliciously sweet and incredibly addicting. The atmosphere was great and decor and our server very nice and helpful. Def plan on coming back and trying their entrees.

It has been too many years since our last visit. First the fire(s) then COVID. Service was excellent, attentive and enjoyable with the humour. The food was fantastic, order a bowl of scraps, you know you want to. We can't wait for our next visit!

Really enjoyed our meal. Had fresh crab and garlic mushrooms to start, fish & chips plus sides for mains and ice cream for desert! All the food tasted great and we were stuffed. The menu had a lot of choice and we will definitely be back to try more!

I've been coming to Magpie since 2015, and it has been fantastic every time. Most recently, we got the quail, pork belly and a special of pasta with duck. Everything was fresh, hot, delicious and generously portioned. S/o to our waitress for suggesting fries to dip in the quail sauce. 10/10! Magpie manages to deliver upscale, creative foods that somehow feel incredibly comforting, like what I wish I could achieve in a big, home cooked meal.

The staff is incredibly knowledgable and helpful for decision-making, which is always necessary because everything looks good. And of course, their cocktails are delicious and the avocado/chocolate mousse is one of the best desserts out there. A great spot for dates, lunch, or bringing out-of-towners.

Bloomin amazing chippy! Enjoyed every morsel. Huge portions but not complaining. Best scampi I've ever had and my husband thoroughky enjoyed every scrap of his fish (size of a shark though!). Cant wait to go again and definitely keeping room for the crumble and ice cream. Haven't a bad word to say about anything because even the staff were amazing!

One of my favorite restaurants in town, MAGPIE! Their service is always amazing with great food. We had hummus bowl, bigoli, and crispy pork belly for lunch. Hummus is their signature dish and we get this almost every time we visit. Bigoli was my 5 year old's favorite (Nutty and earthy). One little disappointment we had was the crispy pork belly. We received all fatty part where I barely got the crispy meat portion. I strongly suggest to check this spot out!

It's been too long since we've dined in at Magpie. Last night was wonderful! We're still talking about how delicious the pork chop on polenta and roasted vegetables with hummus were. Our biggest disappointment was the sparse dining crowd. Please support this local treasure!

Magpie is a solid choice for brunch with its spacious indoor dining area and plenty of outdoor patio seating. Food is fairly tasty and the drinks are delicious. I highly recommend the broccolini as they do a fantastic job on keeping the broccoli tender even with the fried battered really crispy. The king salmon was fantastic as well though I wasn't a fan of the pork belly - didn't read the fine print that it'd be sweet with the honey infusion. In any case, worth checking out if you're looking for a brunch spot.

Really good fish and chips. Would have rated as five stars had waitress not been more interested in chatting to an old friend rather than taking our order. Afraid it cost her a tip. Food was really good though.

Been looking for a 6th star to give this awesome eatery. A gracious and knowledgeable staff, amazing pork belly and asparagus and quail, on the patio on a perfect Sacramento spring evening was the perfect combination.

Magpie is back! Revamped menu but in Magpie tradition, we had a fabulous meal. The special Quail was perfectly prepared on a tasty bed of frisee. The Roasted Chicken Salad was served with amazing vegetables and wonderful salad greens. Classic mushrooms on white bean puree has always been our favorite starter and fries were delicious. Service was stellar! Go eat there!

A colleague highly recommended Magpie's so I was eager to check it out. Fantastic! Indoor and patio seating options, friendly staff, and fabulous food. The side green salad is anything but basic- beautiful fresh greens, colorful radishes, crispy quinoa, and a lovely vinaigrette. The hummus bowl is pretty much my perfect meal- creamy hummus topped with roasted veggies (beets, carrots, cauliflower, turnips), black rice, and a perfectly cooked egg. Healthy, filling comfort food.

Definitely was not hungry after, but later that night I was glad I ordered the avocado chocolate mousse- topped with sea salt, not too sweet- a rich spoonful (or three) was the perfect treat. Highly recommend!

Had a great lunch at Magpie on a beautiful sunny March day. Sat outside in the sunshine and thoroughly enjoyed my winter blt. Huge bacon slices, fully seasoned tomatoes, cress, and caper aioli on really good bread. Mom had the vegie, bean, miso soup and don't even share a bite with me! She said it was delicious and if she had room she would have had more, lol. They were also very accommodating to my dad's picky eating and put up with him, haha. All in all, a lovely afternoon in Sacramento.

This place is great. Every single dish I have had has been delicious. They have lots of vegetarian options which is also great. I got the greens salad which had an interesting texture with fried quinoa. The ahi tuna was also good, different with all the herbs on top. I always like getting the side veggies but I wish they put less oil on them. I love how fresh the food is here, they don't over complicate the menu and dishes which is appreciated.

Super clean, friendly staff, knowledgeable staff! Fish dishes looked amazing. But we enjoyed the ham, egg, pineapple and chips. The vegetarian option of goats cheese salad. Ham was super tasty, chips amazing and the goats cheese salad, so tasty! Enjoyed a vintage Sherry trifle, sadly no photos of the apple crumble as hubby dived in before I could take a picture. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I've died and gone to seafood heaven! Excellent hot pot seafood platter. Warm, delicious ciabatta dipped in a pool of garlic butter dreams. Skip the starters and go for gold on the mains. Worth the wait.

Lovely place that is trying to recover from Covid business closures. Located downtown, it is easy to find and near a lot of other nice businesses. Seating is inside and out around this corner location. The menu is limited during their recovery but the food was good. The homemade potato chips were a far more plentiful offering than I was anticipating; a good thing.

The burger was simple but so tasty and fresh. The bun was soft and held up as well as good tasting. The salad was a nice try for me but a bit to exotic for me. Loved the quinoa in it however. The dried lemon on the iced tea as something new; haven't seen before and make the drink more special.

Wish I had remembered to take more photos.this was my second trip to Magpie. On the first trip I had the gnocchi, which was quite tasty. Hearty portion was provided. My girlfriend ordered the vegan fried chicken sandwich. I'm not vegetarian or vegan, but let me tell you that sandwich was amazing. I only had a couple bites but they were incredible.

Would definitely order that sandwich myself on a future visit. Anyway, back to this trip. We were celebrating a special occasion, and the staff were quite helpful in working with us. We called day-of, and they were able to block off a portion of their outdoor space for our party of 10. Service was timely and attentive the whole time we were there.

I ordered the hamburger, and it was memorable. The meat was juicy, and even though I kept it simple the sandwich delivered. It is nicely sized, not too big or too small. Their cocktails are interesting in their presentation. I ordered the Old Fashioned, which comes in a bottle with two servings included for $16. I poured them into the glass provided, and it was one of the best old fashioned's I've had in a long time.

Would highly recommend ordering that. Only thing I want from Magpie is a slightly larger menu and more days of business, as they're only open from Thursdays to Sundays. Excited to return again soon!

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal; Could not fault a single thing! The staff were very friendly and everything was delicious. They accommodated my shellfish allergy very well (clearly marked my food to avoid cross contamination). In addition, the winter menu was great value (3 courses for 22.50pp). Would return without a doubt!

Not sure how to describe Magpie Cafe. American- yes. Flavorful-yes. Standard fare-nope. My wife and I came for a late lunch and split the Ribeye Steak and a Chicken salad. PROS: Very fresh. Magpie makes a point of being local and wholesome. Very flavorful citrus dressing and fresh veggies in the chicken salad. Whole uncut chicken leg/thigh on the bone in the bottom.

Warm dressing/ marinade. Ribeye was tender and seared quite nicely, served on a thick paper plate with really good fresh-cut fries and a tangy marinade. Nice sidewalk patio seating and a full bar. Super nice staff CONS: No complaints about the food in quality or flavor, but prices are a bit high ( About $50 for the two entrees). I thought Magpies tried a bit too hard to be "aware".

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being earth friendly and food conscious, but grass fed and organic aren't really why I dine out. BOTTOM LINE: Absolutely a nice time out in Midtown Sac. Will go again, but not the kind of place that I would be a regular, more like a "do something different" night out.
