I was incredibly impressed with our dinner here. The service was attentive and kind. The meal was amazing. I ordered the special - beef Wellington - and I don't think I've ever had a more perfectly prepared meal with balanced flavors. My boyfriend had the pork chop tomahawk which was extremely flavorful and tender. I would go back in a heartbeat to try more!

Back to a summer conference travel trail and found myself enroute to the middle of Nebraska, but decided to do a stop along the way in Lincoln. Lovely small town America, with lots of red stuff (Go Big Red?) decorating the community. Several folks said you have to try the Green Gateau, and I am glad that I did. Situated on a main thoroughfare, this one time bakery and bar was a total surprise upon entering (if outside looks were predictor of either an interior or the food, I probably would not visit half of the wonderful establishments that I do)!

A series of interconnecting modest sized rooms with a few tables in each, was adorned with beautiful wood walls (not paneling), a lovely old and large bar and pleasant memorabilia gave the place both an upscale feel while still being unpretentious. White table cloth service made the environment both comfortable and classy. I could go on about the environment, but hey, its the food, right?

Well there is an ample choice of starters, salads, entrees and specials. In fact their specials menu had options for those as well as drinks. In the mood for a Martini, I was impressed with the delivery; a large glass shaker with my glass gave me almost 2 drinks, but allowed me to keep the reserve on ice and chilled for my backup. I had already experienced an overloaded lunch, so I thought I should be modest on my dinner from Gateau.

There were (are) so many interesting choices on the menu, i regretted only being able to be limited in my selection. The Seafood Lavosh sounded so interesting, I had to begin there and decided to also dive into the Rainbow Trout. The Lavosh (or in my case, the Cauliflower pie) was a thin crust, cracker style bread laden with small bits of seafood in a seafood sauce adorned with vegetables.

It was served hot and was absolutely delicious. The Rainbow Trout (while they did have a Trout special, it unfortunately for me was stuffed and wrapped in a pork/Pancetta (a no-no for me) was absolutely delish. Served on a slate tray, an abundance of grilled Idaho Trout (2 fillets) were sitting on top of a medley of roasted vegetables, including brussel sprouts, spring squash, sweet potatoes and zucchini spears and sweet potatoes, served along side a line of sun-dried tomato pesto, and lightly covered with a lemon white wine sauce.

The lovely fresh croissant that accompanied the Trout, while it looked so lovely it was not to be with the appetizer. OH MY GOODNESS; I would drive from DC for this again! To say the portions of hearty is almost an understatement. Of course a word about our server. A wonderfully attentive and very friendly Asa, an graphic design student (rising senior) at the aforementioned Big Red institution was equally part of the great experience we had.

To the management if you're reading this; hang on to him as long as you can. He represents you extremely well. The only nit pick I have is that the Trout arrived on the table less than 3 minutes after the appetizer, so I had barely had the first bite/piece before my entree arrived. Partly my fault for ordering both at the same time, but the kitchen should be alert enough as they weren't that busy to space things out a bit.

While visiting with Asa he shared a bit of the history of the place, how it earned its name, his respect for the owner-chef and of course, many insights into his faves on the menu. PLEASE if you find yourself in Lincoln and you're looking for something special, and while Im sure the Haymarket establishments are nice, you would be doing yourself a favor to skip those and head to the Green Gateau.

I come to Lincoln frequently and I ALWAYS make time for this place. I crave it when I'm not here. Favorite restaurant in Lincoln for breakfast or dinner.

Last Wednesday, dined here again for dinner with 4 business associates. Excellent service, a extensive selection of quality food options and a fair price. Always enjoy Green Gateau when I'm in Lincoln, NE.

A wonderful location for dinner. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff (knew the menu, the wines and the desserts). Our group ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers, cocktails, entrees and desserts. Everyone enjoyed their order. Carrot cake was wonderful.

Stopped in for some Sunday Brunch and they delivered. We started out with two orders of the beignets (which are HUGE by the way!) and then hit salmon Benedict, steak and eggs (rare), and huevos rancheros (not in the traditional sense) portions and prices were amazing, drinks were yummy, and extremely tentative service. Will be coming back!

It was about a hundred bucks for me, my partner, and our twelve year old. That included entrees, an appetizer, some drinks, no dessert. We didn't skimp but didn't go for the most expensive stuff either. It's probably about right for a splurge dinner. The food was mostly very good! I think they messed up my crepe, it came out really bland, but I was too hungry to send it back. The crab cake sliders were excellent, and I have no notes on this brie pastry my partner ordered, which was excellent. Service was impeccable.

Best restaurant in Lincoln! Wonderful selection - from steaks, seafood and sandwiches. The table-side guacamole was to die for! The chips that come with it are homemade and seasoned deliciously. The steaks are wagyu and so tender. Also another notable feature is the creme brulee is broiled table-side as well and with your choice of white or brown sugar. Super busy place but staff is very attentive and professional. Highly recommend making reservations! Can't wait to come back again!

I've been here twice and both times everything was amazing! The first time I got the crab Benedict with potato cake and that was really good! The second time I got the crepes 'Florentine' and those were some of the best tasting veggies! I was very happy with both of those dishes on Sunday brunch : It looks small from the outside but there is so much seating available!

Probably one of the best places I have ever eaten. I can see why they are rated one of the finest in Lincoln. Our waitress was super nice and the atmosphere was romantic. The perfect place to eat for Valentines day. They do have more of a healthy touch, so they are served with vegetables like zucchini. The salmon is a staple here, some of the best salmon i have ever had. Definitely can't make that at home. The croissant was amazing with the whipped butter. Quite the variety of wines as well.

Ugh. I hate to leave bad reviews but the manager just couldn't figure out how to make things right when something went awry and that's not okay. My first time there and I enjoyed a great meal and good service. When the bill came I learned that the evening's wine special was $17 a glass. Definitely would not have ordered it if the server had provided that information.

When I spoke with the manager the following day he couldn't have been nicer or more concerned and assured me that their training and policy is to always share the price of specials. Then he said, and I quote, "I wish I could think of some way to make this right but I just can't." Very unfortunate as I can think of any number of ways he could have made it right. Likely won't be returning even though the food was really, really good.

I really want to like this restaurant. It's a charming space and the service is generally quite good. But there is a problem: the lunch portions are really tiny. My wife got a hamburger recently that was about the size of a slider, a few bites' worth, and it wasn't even that good. For the price ($16 for a burger with mushrooms and a side salad), you can't feel you've gotten your money's worth.

When I've ordered salmon or steak dish, it's more than an appetizer, but less than a normal platter. This has happened enough times to make me see it as a consistent weakness.

Great cordon Blu crepe, but the biscuits and gravy was a bit disappointing (carrots in the gravy?) Service was good and cute little spot. Plenty of brunch options to choose from.

THE BEST spot in all of Lincoln for brunch/lunch/dinner. The wait staff is so professional, friendly, and is incredibly knowledgeable on the menu and the food is amazing! I've been to restaurants in town that claim to be fine dining but The Green Gateau is really the best there is when it comes to quality and a great price. I definitely recommend getting the table side guacamole for an appetizer! I'd be here every day if I could!

Green Gateau is a bit of iconic institution here in Lincoln. Brunch is always very good and they have many options. I always make sure to have a scone and fresh whipped cream and a preserve with any breakfast. They also have solid mimosa specials. Lunch and dinner are solid but not their strong suit in my opinion. Can be a little overpriced but compared to larger cities, it's good. Solid selection, good service, atmosphere is a bit dated but it's good for what they are going for.

First off, allow me to complain about the prices. You can blow up your bank account at the green gateau if you so choose. That said, great service, great food, nice ambiance. The coffee is genuinely great, incredible deserts too and the Entree's are also wonderful. I got some kind of Ancho salad thing? It was incredible. I got it to go and put some ghost of ancho hot sauce on it, probably the best decision I've ever made.

In addition to paying $20 for a salad my one other complaint is the Avacodo in my delicious salad was a little under ripe, all in all though, it was a salad, it tasted very good and it didn't taste like refuse. Two thumbs up.

Hands down one of the best places we've eaten at in Lincoln. I was talked into their beef wellington which was their Saturday night special. I've never had one before but the layers of textures and flavors present were fantastic. My wife and her mother had a mixed grill entree and my father in law had the sirloin. The steaks were fantastic and vegetables were excellent.

They don't skimp on portion sizes either, beware asking for a "side salad" if you aren't really hungry. No complaints about the food at all. The table was a little wobbly but that is honestly the only thing I can nit pick on. Our server reported it to her manager and they're going to be fixing it tonight. No requirement for a reservation but is available for peak hours. An absolute must if you're wanting good food and great atmosphere.

Visited in late July 2021. Excellent service. Fair prices. I started with the beignet appetizer and it was excellent. I ordered the filet and it was great. It has a laid back/steakhouse type vibe. I would return.

A bit of a wait on Saturday mornings if you do not have a reservation but worth it. Waiter and service was on the slower side but food was worth the wait. We had the salmon croissant special with the potato pancake, eggs Benedict, and a couple carafes for mimosas. All the food was very good with huge portions. Come hungry!

What a wonderful surprise to find a French bistro in Lincoln during a road trip across the country. Had to order take-out but the food was exceptional and prices were so reasonable for the quality of the food! Don't miss this jewel!

This first visit was not impressive. I came here while visiting family and everyone said how great this spot is. We sat outside, which I don't think I'd do again due to all the traffic noise. Our waiter was nice but rather slow and inattentive. We struggled to get drink refills and our order took a very long time to arrive. We ordered the beignets as an appetizer and they were fantastic.

For my entree, I had the steak and mushrooms. I ordered my steak medium but it was very well done when it arrived and since it took so long to arrive, I didn't bother saying anything or sending it back. Like the food, it took a long time to get our bill as well. The menu has some great sounding food and others said their meal was good but I just wasn't impressed at all.

The staff and specifically our waiter was excellent and extremely attentive. There were several specials when we went and I had the beef Wellington that was served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. It was perfectly cooked! We had a bottle of Pinot noir that was on special which paired perfectly with my meal and the others in my party had similar things to say. It isn't cheap but you're not only paying for the quality, the overall atmosphere was very nice as well. You will not be disappointed!

I found this wonderful place a few blocks away from the Marriott Cornhusker Hotel. Ben was attentive and pleasant as my server. I tried a couple of things off the menu that were unique to me. The cordon bleu crepes were delicious. They came with blue cheese potato salad, which was wonderful in itself. The starters menu had beignets. They are more of a dessert and I enjoyed them with the lemon curd. Overall, the atmosphere is comfortable.

The service is great. The prices are, to me, very reasonable. The menu is diverse and has both familiar and creative items to choose from. I will visit again when I have the chance.

Wow! We will be back! Wonderful service, reasonable prices and beyond delicious! We had the following menus items (rated 0-10, 0 means never order it again and 10 means close to heaven): Coconut Shrimp Lollipops 7, Brussel Sprouts 8.5, Lobster Bisque 9, French Onion Soup 9, Roast Red Pepper Gouda Soup 6, Cobb Salad 8, Blue Cheese Dressing 9, Beef Wellington 8, Seafood Sampler 8.5, Apricot Napoleon Torte 10, Lemon Italian Creme Cake 9.5, Creme Brulee 2 (sugar on top was too done and ruined the rest). Bottom line it's definitely worth a try. Shout out to our waiter, Ethan! He was so nice, helpful and had a great sense of humor.

We went here with my family the next morning after a wedding. We are all from out of town so we mingled a lot and our server never made it seem like we were a problem. (speaking from a past server when tables who sit along time can hurt your day, because you can't turn your table around) He was so kind. I wish I could remember his name ( Ethan I think it was) The food was amazing. I would definitely try to beignets!

This is sort of The Fancy Place here in Lincoln. Being decidedly low-class, myself, I've only just managed to try it after nearly three years of living here. Thanks to the times we live in, a lot of places are offering family meal versions of their dishes and they are one of many doing this, but I say with much sadness and disappointment that this is one of the worst versions I've tried.

The flavor and concept on the main and the two sides was all there, for sure, but it wasn't a great value at all, and everything was almost inedibly salty plus incredibly tough. My chicken breast took a whole minute of chewing per bite and actually hurt my tongue with dehydration from the amount of salt. I really expected more from the number one recommendation for special occasion dinners in town! I'm not sure I'll be back if this is what I can expect from them (at an even worse value for individual entrees), but I'm glad I tried so I can check it off my list. A side note- the decor and atmosphere inside the restaurant were nice, if kinda old-fashioned in an out-of-date way. Very 90s, but a superlative example thereof.

Take out review. Their ordering system online workout great. Tried their cordon bleu dish, a salad with grilled veggies, and a delicious lemon dessert. The presentation of the take out was great. The food tasted fresh and delicious. It looked fresh. We walked in and picked up.

Delicious food, fair portion sizes, and friendly service! The red pepper gouda bisque is a must! The seating area inside is well decorated and clean. The outside is a bit loud with the busy road. We will definitely return!

Being on the road, as we were, our goal was a "git in, git out" place. GG didn't appear to fall into that category, but decided to go with it. What a pleasant surprise! I got the CA Club, and partner got the Jamaican Jerk Wrap. Both exceeded expectation. Attentive service, and warm atmosphere. I took a slice of the apricot torte for the road. This place is a keeper!
