Depalma's Italian Cafe

I usually go to the ones on the East side or West side, but De Palmas is the best! It's an Athens staple! From the. Bread with oil and vinegar to start to their famous specialty pizza with chicken and pineapple, to friendly servers and staff, De Palmas is that hometown Italian joint every city deserves. Keep up the great work!

Atmosphere was ok I liked all the old art it would be cool if they had jazz or classical or some other type of music. My food was ok the wine selection was good, I enjoyed my time there. The environment is the best thing about this place. Service was good, and again the environment was cool.

We ate dinner here at the bar. No wait, friendly staff. Homemade lasagna was delicious. Really light and tasty. Not heavy at all. Pizza was cooked really well, crunchy crust and fresh toppings.

Came while on a campus tour with our daughter. DePalma's was a recommendation from a friend who went to UGA. The bolognese sauce was very good, the rest of the food was just ok. The host was the rudest we've ever encountered anywhere, to the point it was just comical. Every new group that came through the door we were entertained by how rude he was.

Almost like an SNL skit. We stayed because by the time we walked somewhere else and waited it would've just taken longer to get a table. Our server was friendly and kind. If we come back to Athens in the future we will choose a different restaurant downtown. Wish it had been a better experience.

Worst Italian food I've ever had. The pesto I had tasted both musty and soapy, and as someone who has been to Italy, I can assure you this was anything but authentic. My partner got the chicken marinara which was over cooked and rubbery, with a sauce that was hardly cooked and looked straight of of the can. They couldn't even bother to make the meal hot.

On top of that all that their homemade focaccia came out burnt and resembling cornbread more that anything. For a $50 meal I truly expected more and was thoroughly disappointed and disgusted. I couldn't even finish my meal. I recommend going to target down the street and getting a frozen meal instead. It would taste better and save you the $50. If I could give less than one star I would.

This was the second time my husband and I tried DePalmas. First time at this location. Not coming back. For the price, the portions and food quality is ridiculous. The only reason for 2 stars instead of one is bc my chicken was actually pretty good - the noodles, not so much (I got the chicken parm with spicy sauce). The noodles were cold and the sauce had almost no flavor.

I had to add salt for it to taste decent and the sauce was also way too spicy to enjoy (I love spicy food, but the spice in the sauce was overpowering for the meal). I initially wanted the pasta dinner since it came with a side salad, but, to simply add chicken (or any protein) cost $7+ which would make it even more expensive than the seafood dishes! Ridiculous!

So I opted for the chicken parm. The service was just ok. The restaurant was nearly empty, but we still waited about 10 min before being seated and no one really acknowledged us. Our waitress was kind enough, but, wasn't really attentive or professional. Their menu options are so limited and just not worth it for the price.

The atmosphere was very pleasant and the workers were very kind. The food was good I was very surprised to see the huge slab of eggplant for my dish but it was very tasty. I do wish there was a bit more noodles because of how good it tasted but this is Definitely a place I'd like to come back to.

This place was an overall bad experience. It took a little more than an hour for us to get our food and when it did get there it was mediocre at best. I understand that they are under-staffed, which explains the wait but not the terrible food. And none of the staff were wearing masks. Not even the ones in the kitchen. So I probably won't go here again, the fish tasted like water, the kale was chewy and tasted like steak, and the ravioli was just gross. I'm only giving it more than a one because the pizza was alright, not good, but alright.

I was reading some of the comment and I was pretty surprised. I have only ever been here one time but I really enjoyed it. The pasta I got was so fire and I am craving it right now that's why I decided to write a review haha! The wait was long when I went but bar seating was open so I had a date there. It was great and love the atmosphere! Would so recommend.

STAY AWAY! I'm genuinely not sure if food ever comes out of the kitchen, well at least not cooked food. We asked for straws for our drinks and we never did get them. It took 30+ minutes to get a Caesar salad. As soon as we sat down we ordered bread sticks which never came out, after waiting over an hour for our appetizer and 45+ minutes for our meals we decided to go ahead and take off.

Within the 1.5 hours we were there I barely saw anything come out of the kitchen. This was really a disappointing experience and I would much rather hit McDonalds than suffer through an experience like this.

I came in for lunch and selected the Seafood Charmaine priced at $21.99. It was recommended to me by a coworker. The dish is advertised as "shrimp & sea scallops with a spicy sun-dried tomato, spinach & jalapeno cream sauce over fettuccine." The dish was not served with a side or bread for that price. When the plate arrived, it looked appetizing; however, one bite into the shrimp and I discovered it had not been peeled or had the tails removed.

Imagine my disgust when it was crunchy! There were exactly three shrimp and three scallops on the plate. The jalapeno cream sauce was tasty but with a waitress who never came back to my table after she delivered my food, I left the establishment thirsty and very disappointed. I even had to get up to find my waitress and get my check. Honestly, I cannot figure out how this restaurant survives. This is the second bad experience I've had with DePalma's, and I plan to avoid it for another five years.

Food was awesome! Everyone loved the cheese breadsticks! Atmosphere was great. Definitely will be back! We even took some breadsticks home for us and a friend.

I've eaten here before this experience I'm referencing, the two times I went it was extremely underwhelming. Everything was cold, soggy, and just not that tasty. Today I ordered delivery through a locally ran delivery business. The food upon arrival was basically freezing, which isn't exactly anyone's fault. But, the "bruschetta" they gave me was literally a huge pile of soggy mushrooms on even soggier bread.

I was so thrown off, it didn't even look like bruschetta, or tasted like it. It was mushrooms on toast. The pasta was alright but was $25.00 for Alfredo sauce and olive oil. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you're looking for a tasty, medium priced place.

Honestly so bad. We came tonight (Sunday night) with an hour and 45 min until we had to be at an event. We thought we would have plenty of time. About the time we thought it was odd that we had been waiting 20 minutes for our drinks, we heard another table ask for an eta on their food. We should have taken the hint. We finally got our drinks and decided to go ahead and order because as long as we got our food within 35 min we would have plenty of time to eat and get to our event.

We wait and waited and finally after waiting over an hour since we ordered, we had to make the decision to ask them to pack our food to go because we just had no time left. We took our food to go, were late to our event, and when we got home we saw this. This was $15-$20 each. So very upset and disappointed by this experience.

First off, our waiter was super adorable and nice. In terms of food, I was not impressed. I got the Fettuccine Alfredo (it's called something else on the menu), and it was not hot and the only thing that had flavor was the chicken on top. There was also hardly any sauce in the dish. I will not be returning and honestly Olive Garden is better lol.

Walked inside and it felt like a truly authentic Italian restaurant, all the way down to the black and white pictures on the wall. The bread and oil starters were so delicious! The bread was flavorful and crispy. I ordered the white sauce mushroom pizza and that was my favorite! The margarita and Greek pizza were also super good and flavorful! The Greek pizza was stuffed with veggies and had a drizzle of balsamic.

All of the pizzas were cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of crunch. Everything was super tasty here and was well priced for the amount of food we got! The servers were also really friendly. It's the perfect place to come grab a bite to eat with friends or even a date! So many good things to say about this place! I will definitely be returning.

This has been my go to for a few years as I travel here often for business. It truly depends on who is cooking on if your food will be good or not. Owner cooked my food last time snd it was outstanding. Unfortunately today it was deplorable. Truly not edible. Ordered the stuffed shells special. Was cooked wrong and was not edible, manager showed me what my stuffed shells were supposed to look like incase I was red to take them to my hotel and I'm traveling so I ate the over cooked spinach and onion cheese bread for dinner and paid for the stuffed shells that their chef prepared and could not be eaten.

No I do not recommend this restaurant location. The other locations in the past have had better chef's but I'm thinking this restaurant hires anyone to cook. So disgusted by the service and inconsistency of the food. Wish I had taken pictures for you!

Good old stand by for Italian food in the Athens area. The place was open for inside dining however I ordered via phone and then went there to pick it up. Staff were wearing masks and the place wasn't busy In the least and staff were cleaning and wiping down surfaces. If I am ever asked what is one of the best things I have ever eaten, I will quickly blurt out the spinach, onion, cheese breadsticks! They are a must consume!

First time back in 30 years and just as good as I remember it! Service was great and food was fantastic. Thee is something about the sauce with a delightful calzone that just makes it magic. Only disappointment was they now longer serve Grolsch beer.

Great food, loved my pizza. Service was excellent, and they have a full menu. Definitely. Place to hit.

I picked up take out here tonight; a medium pizza which was more like a large, caprese salad and chicken scallopini (SP) for my spouses birthday. He tore threw the chicken dish then headed for my pizza. I hate almost all the caprese but it was all incredibly delicious and light. The crust of the pizza was perfect as it was light and the toppings were all fresh. Amazingly good! My only complaint: I was asked to wear a mask but the patrons at the bar did not have any visible.

Great food and service. We had a large group of about 15 kids and 10 adults. Servers gladly split up the bill (even split the cost of breadsticks for the kids) and didn't add on a gratuity for the large party. Would definitely return.

Dined at Depalma's Italian Cafe or dinner during a college visit to UGA with my daughter. Everything we ordered, from appetizers through dinner was really great! The dessert offerings were the only small hiccup in a dining experience you will love. We talked about the meal for days and look forward to returning.

I have to say I usually LOVE stopping here. I get the seafood Charmaine EVERY time. This time the seafood was oven cooked and pasta sauce lacked flavor. This is a "spicy" meal. it truly was horrible. I drove an hour and was already tired and ready to get to my hotel and relax, as well as snap photos of my meal to share on my food Instagram, that won't be happening. So disappointed, I literally just said to my friend I don't know how people have bad experiences here I love it and then boom today

Ordered a Slice and Salad. Noticed right away salad was chilled and not roim temperature and wilted. Tasted just made, really liked that touch, and croutons were light and airy instead of the enamel busting food service hardtack cubes that normally passes as croutons. Pizza was really good, -gooey, chewy and crispy all at once with tons of pepperoni.

Service was great. I made sure I missed the rush, so I could take my time. I will definitely come back to try some of the sandwiches. The only thing I would ding them on is that the booth shelf was really dusty. I wanted to pull down some of the bottles to read the inscriptions, but did not want to stir things up. Nothing major.

So full disclosure. I used to wait tables here 20+ years ago. I loved working here because the staff was great and the food fantastic. So I had very high expectations coming back after all this time. Wow. It was even better than I remembered. The spinach and onion breadsticks were heavenly. The angel hair with pesto was delicious. And my family loved the pizza. Service was friendly and efficient. And the restaurant is gorgeous. I will try not to wait two decades until my next visit.

First visit to the wonderful town of Athens included a wonderful dinner at Depalma's. Waiter was very familiar with the menu but after talking, he suggested a salmon dish that wasn't on the menu. I really enjoyed the meal and service.

I rarely go for any Italian places when out cause I'm picky. I walked in and there was a young guy behind bar and asked about old fashioned's well he made a stellar one, or was it three or four. hm well they were good and he was really knowledgeable about the menu and the bar as well. I started with a Caesar and was torn on an entree or a calzone.

I know really random but I will say that I haven't had a really good calzone in some time. That changed tonight I had pepperoni, prosciutto and Gorgonzola. It was the perfect size and wicked tasty. Wasn't a huge fan of the sauce, it tasted a little sweet for me but a little chili flake made it perfect. The calzone didn't even need the sauce anyway! Next time I'm in town I'll be back again
