Seth and Dorothy Garfield started their 1st year of operating the oyster farm and Raw Bar in 1981. The West End pond has been used to raise Belon Oysters (81-89) and now the famous Cuttyhunk Oyster. The company must apply to the town every ten years to renew it's lease agreement. This allows the company to use the water column in the West End pond, as well as an area of bottom in the harbor at Penikese Island.
What better way to complete your cruise to Cuttyhunk Pond than a fresh Cuttyhunk Raw Bar, served right at your boat! Our Raw Bar provides fresh Cuttyhunk Oysters and Clams, along with suffed quahog and hot clam chowder to boaters throughout the summer season. Hope to see you soon!
We provide both full Lobster bakes and a unique shellfish raw bar featuring our famous Cuttyhunk Oysters and Clams. This all- inclusive traditional New England meal includes Raw Bar, New England clam chowder, lobsters, steamed littlenecks, corn, potatoes or yams and linguica (a local Portuguese sausage) all cooked to perfection in our large propane steamer.
Range is from Newfoundland to to Texas. Oysters take on different flavors due to the local water temperature, salinity, and phytoplankton type. Oysters tend to be cheaper per unit in the south. Then, as you move up the coast towards New England oysters become higher in value. Imagine a blue pickup truck sitting on a wharf on Fishers Island, New York, loaded to the limit with 35 burlap bags filled with 2.5 cm seed oysters appx.
